Student Art β’ Design β’ Collaboration
What comes after high school? Beyond the Diploma is a new Fortuna High design project encouraging Huskies to think about the many different paths their lives can take after graduation.
The original concept was developed by Fortuna High Principal Mr. Rossman, then brought into the classroom by Mr. Holmes and his Painting & Drawing students. Students were challenged to interpret the idea visually and create artwork that could inspire other Huskies to think about their own futures.
Two student concepts were selected and developed into finished posters.
Kayden Quenell created the With Arrows design, surrounding the Fortuna High Husky with winding paths leading toward careers including teaching, firefighting, construction, art, nursing, medicine, the military, and more.
Gianna Lavanty created the Husky in Square design, combining a hand-drawn Husky with a graduation cap and messages including βDream Big,β βOne Day at a Time,β and βProgress Not Perfection.β
After the original artwork was completed, students in Fortuna Highβs Photo & Design program took the designs into the next stage of production, preparing and refining them into print-ready artwork while preserving the look and personality of the studentsβ original work.
The finished pieces are a great example of collaboration across Fortuna High β beginning with an idea, moving through traditional drawing and painting, and finishing with digital design and production skills.
Most importantly, the posters carry a simple message for our Huskies: earning a diploma isnβt the end of the journey. Itβs the beginning of whatever comes next. ππ€πΎ
