After taking a week off for the Labor Day holiday, the Husky Howler is back with another round of news from around Fortuna High. This week includes the Latin Dance, yearbook sales, plenty of club activities and volunteer opportunities, tutoring and detention information, a catch-up on Husky athletics, and this week’s Husky Eats menu.

Student News
Latin Dance — September 18
Get ready for the Latin Dance on Friday, September 18th, from 9:00 PM to midnight in Logan Gym.
DJ Pachan Guero will be playing popular Latin music throughout the night. The dance is open to Fortuna High students and guests, and tickets are $10 at the door. Snacks and drinks will also be available for purchase, with proceeds supporting the Folklórico Club.
Students bringing a guest need to pick up a guest pass application from Naomi in the office. Completed applications are due Thursday, September 17th.
Yearbooks Are Still $69
The 2026–27 Fortuna High Yearbook is on sale now for $69 through October 30th. Prices will increase after the deadline.

Husky Spirit Fridays
Show your Fortuna High pride every Friday for Husky Spirit Friday. Wear blue and white or your favorite Husky apparel, then stop by CA-9 during break to scan the QR code and earn Minga points.
Detention, Minute Recovery & Tutoring
Detention and minute recovery opportunities continue throughout the week at Fortuna High.
On Monday, lunch detention is with Mr. Richardson in B-2, followed by after-school detention with Mr. Orr in CA-8.
On Tuesday, Mr. Orr hosts lunch detention and after-school minute recovery in CA-8. Students looking for extra academic help can also attend after-school tutoring in the Library.
On Wednesday, lunch detention and minute recovery are with Mr. Richardson in B-3, while after-school detention is with Mr. Orr in CA-8.
On Thursday, both lunch and after-school detention are with Mr. Orr in CA-8. Friday lunch detention is also with Mr. Orr in CA-8.
Saturday School will be held September 19th from 8:00 AM to noon with Mr. Orr in CA-8.
Club News
There are plenty of opportunities to get involved at Fortuna High this week.
Interact Club meets Monday at lunch in Mr. Rios’ room in the Art Building. This week, a guest from Clendenen’s Cider Works will join the club as students begin planning for the 2026 Apple Harvest Festival and discuss upcoming volunteer opportunities.
Monday is also the deadline for Travel Squad applications. Juniors and seniors interested in the trip should turn in their applications to Mr. Benbow in D-5 by 3:00 PM. Applications are available outside his classroom.
The first Pizza with a Pastor of the school year also takes place Monday at lunch in CA-2.
On Tuesday, Dungeons & Dragons Club meets after school in AB-3, BSU meets on the first and third Tuesdays at lunch in B-3, and Garden Club meets after school in the garden between the Metal Shop and F Building.
Creeks Club hosts recycling every Thursday after school, meeting on the senior lawn for about 30 minutes. Students do not need to be Creeks members to participate. The club’s next lunch meeting will be September 24th in F-5, where members will discuss upcoming events and fill two vacant officer positions.
Creeks will also host a campus cleanup Friday after school, beginning on the senior lawn. Theatre Club continues its regular meetings on the first and third Fridays of the month, with officer meetings on the second and fourth Fridays.
Husky Sports
With a week away from the Husky Howler, there’s plenty of Fortuna High sports action to catch up on.
Fortuna Football opened this stretch with a dominant 41–6 victory over St. Helena, followed by a 27–20 win over University Prep. The Huskies then faced Ukiah, falling 27–13.
Girls Tennis earned a strong early-season win on September 6th, defeating Eureka 5–2.
Boys Soccer picked up a 1–0 victory over McKinleyville and a big 9–0 win over Ferndale. The Huskies also faced Arcata in a close 1–0 loss before falling 3–0 to Fort Bragg.
Girls Soccer continued its strong start with a 7–0 victory over McKinleyville and a 2–1 win over Arcata, the defending league champions.
Girls Volleyball has faced a challenging stretch of competition, with losses against Shasta, Hoopa Valley, Etna, and Orland.

Husky Eats
For breakfast, Monday starts with apple strudel, Tuesday brings biscuits and gravy, Wednesday features breakfast pizza, Thursday serves cinnamon rolls, and Friday finishes the week with a sausage and egg muffin. Daily alternatives include a meat or PB&J sandwich, parfait, and cereal.
For lunch, Monday features a hamburger or cheeseburger, Tuesday serves chicken fajitas, Wednesday brings sub sandwiches, Thursday features the pasta bar, and Friday wraps up the week with orange chicken. Lunch also includes vegetables, fruit, milk, and access to the salad bar.
