The third full week of school is here, and Fortuna High is getting busy! This week’s Husky Howler includes Picture Day retakes, fall play auditions, Husky Spirit Friday, plenty of club opportunities, Homecoming preparations, tutoring and detention information, Husky Sports results, and another week of Husky Eats.

Student News
Picture Day Retakes — September 2
Picture Day retakes are Wednesday, September 2nd. Students may have their picture taken if they ordered a package or if they have not had a school picture taken at all this year.
Students participating in retakes will receive a pass in class with their scheduled appointment time.
Fall Play Auditions
There’s still time to get involved with the Fortuna High Fall Play. Cast and crew applications are available outside CA-6.
Crew interviews take place Tuesday, September 1st, followed by cast auditions on Wednesday, September 2nd and possible callbacks on Thursday, September 3rd. Check the bulletin board outside CA-6 for additional information and sign-ups.
Yearbooks Are On Sale
The 2026–27 Fortuna High Yearbook is available now for $69 through October 30th. The price will increase after the deadline, so students and families are encouraged to order early.

Husky Spirit Fridays
Fridays are Husky Spirit Fridays at Fortuna High! Students are encouraged to wear blue and white or their favorite Husky gear, including hoodies, club shirts, leadership shirts, athletic gear, and more.
Students showing their Husky spirit can stop by CA-9 during break to scan the QR code and earn Minga points.
Detention, Minute Recovery & Tutoring
Detention and minute recovery opportunities are available throughout the school week.
On Monday, lunch detention is with Mr. Richardson in B-2, followed by after-school detention with Mr. Orr in CA-8.
On Tuesday, Mr. Orr hosts both lunch detention and after-school minute recovery in CA-8. Students needing academic help can also take advantage of after-school tutoring for all subjects in the Library every Tuesday.
On Wednesday, lunch detention and minute recovery are with Mr. Richardson in B-3, while after-school detention is with Mr. Orr in CA-8.
On Thursday, Mr. Orr hosts both lunch and after-school detention in CA-8. Friday’s lunch detention is also with Mr. Orr in CA-8.
Saturday School is September 5th from 8:00 AM–12:00 PM with Mr. Stockdale in F-2.
Club News
There are plenty of opportunities to find your people and get involved at Fortuna High this week.
Garden Club meets every Tuesday after school in the garden between the Metal Shop and F Building. Students can earn community service hours while participating, and anyone with questions can stop by CA-1 during break or lunch.
MECHA Club meets Tuesday, September 1st at lunch in CA-4. Members will discuss officer elections, T-shirts, and future fundraisers. New and returning members are welcome.
Dungeons & Dragons Club meets every Tuesday after school in AB-3 with Mr. Rios, while BSU meets on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at lunch in B-3.
Students looking for an adventure beyond campus can check out Travel Squad. An information and application meeting for this spring’s trip to Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and New York City will be held Thursday, September 3rd during break in D-5 with Mr. Benbow. Students can learn about the trip, application process, and how to reserve a spot.
Creeks Club meets Thursday at lunch in F-5 for students interested in environmental projects and service opportunities. Creeks will also host a 30-minute campus cleanup Friday after school, beginning on the senior lawn. Students do not need to be club members to participate.
Theatre Club holds regular meetings on the first and third Fridays of each month, with officer meetings on the second and fourth Fridays.
Chemistry Club meets on the first Friday of each month after school in F-3 with Mr. Willson.
Looking ahead, the first SkillsUSA meeting of the year will be September 10th at lunch in Culinary, B-4. Students who signed up or are interested in learning more about SkillsUSA are welcome.
Husky Sports
Fall athletics are underway, and the Huskies had plenty of action last week.
Boys Basketball Strength and Conditioning continues Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 6:00–7:00 PM in the Logan Gym weight room. The workouts are open to boys interested in playing basketball who are not currently participating in a fall sport.
Homecoming preparations are also beginning. All juniors and seniors interested in playing, cheering, or coaching for Thursday Night Football must attend a mandatory meeting Wednesday, September 2nd at lunch in the theater. Information about practices, the game, and sign-ups will be provided. Students with questions can see Mr. Couch.
On the field, Boys Soccer had a strong week with a 3–0 shutout over Del Norte followed by a 6–1 victory over Point Arena.
Girls Soccer opened the week with a narrow 1–0 loss to St. Bernard’s before responding with consecutive 5–0 victories over Del Norte and Mendocino. The Huskies finished the week with a 1–1 tie against Kelseyville.
In Girls Volleyball, Fortuna battled St. Bernard’s through five sets before falling 3–2, followed by a 3–0 loss to Eureka.

Husky Eats
There’s another full week of breakfast and lunch options waiting for hungry Huskies.
For breakfast, Monday starts with a breakfast burrito, Tuesday features a pancake variety, Wednesday brings chicken and waffles, Thursday serves an egg scramble, and Friday finishes with a sausage and egg muffin. Daily alternatives include a meat or PB&J sandwich, parfait, and cereal.
For lunch, Monday features a corndog, Tuesday brings a walking taco, Wednesday serves lasagna, Thursday features a chicken sandwich, and Friday wraps up the week with a baked potato bar. Lunch also includes vegetables, fruit, milk, and access to the salad bar.
