On a beautiful sunny day in the Fortuna High garden, family, friends, staff, and community members gathered to celebrate the graduation of Ed Lewis and Emily Castillo from the Glen Paul School LifeSkills Program.

The Glen Paul School LifeSkills Program, operated by the Humboldt County Office of Education (HCOE), provides specialized education for students with extensive needs and disabilities ages 3 to 22. The program focuses on functional academics, vocational training, and independent living skills, helping students build independence at home, at work, and within the community. Fortuna High proudly supports students during the final years of the program.

The ceremony included heartfelt speeches and reflections from teachers Clay and Val, along with remarks from Fortuna High Principal Damon Collier and Humboldt County Superintendent of Schools Michael Davies-Hughes. The paraprofessionals who worked closely with Emily and Ed were also recognized for the care, dedication, and support they provided throughout the students’ journeys.

It was a meaningful and emotional celebration filled with smiles, applause, and pride as Ed and Emily reached this important milestone surrounded by the people who supported them along the way.
