Husky Howler News Feb. 1st

A new week at Fortuna High means new opportunities to get involved, stay informed, and show Husky pride. Here’s a look at the latest campus updates featured in this week’s Husky Howler video bulletin.


🎓 Student News & Reminders

Travel Squad Members should plan to attend a very important meeting at break on Tuesday. Key information about the upcoming trip will be shared, so don’t miss it.

Yearbooks are on sale now for $76. Students can still personalize two custom pages for free. Senior photo and quote submissions are due March 1, and custom pages and baby ads are due April 5. Seniors should email their photo and full name to srios@fuhsdistrict.net. Photos will appear in the Senior Submitted section, and quotes will be printed under formal senior portraits. There’s also one last chance to be in the yearbook. Make-up school photos will be taken by Mr. Rios in Room AB-3 on Thursday, March 12, during Advisory, Lunch, and After School. Students who missed earlier photo days are encouraged to attend.


📚 Detention & Tutoring Schedule

Students needing academic support or assigned detention should pay close attention to this week’s schedule.

Lunch and after-school detention sessions are running throughout the week in rooms B-3, CA-8, Café 1, and AG-2 depending on the day. Before-school detention is also available Tuesday and Thursday mornings in E-3.

Tutoring support continues as well. Math tutoring is offered during lunch in E-2 with Ms. Valdez and in E-4 with Mr. Couch on Thursday. After-school tutoring is available in the Library with Miss Day and in Room F-6 with Mrs. Dixon on multiple days.

Saturday School will be held February 7 from 8:00 AM–12:00 PM in CA-8 with Mr. Orr.


🌱 Club News

Clubs are in full swing this week with several ways for students to get involved.

Interact Club members will be volunteering at the Coats for the Cold event on Saturday, February 7 at the Jefferson Community Center in Eureka. Volunteers should arrive at 9:00 AM to help set up.

Garden Club meets Monday after school in the garden between F Building and the Metal Shop.

Dungeons & Dragons Club meets Tuesday after school in AB-3 with Mr. Rios, and BSU meets Tuesday at lunch in B-3.

On Thursday, Creeks Club continues weekly recycling efforts after school on the senior lawn — everyone is welcome to help, even if you’re not a member. Mecha Club meets at lunch in CA-4.

Friday brings Theatre Club at lunch in CA-6 and another opportunity to support campus through the Creeks Club campus clean-up right after school on the senior lawn.


🏀 Husky Sports Update

Spring prep is already beginning. Boys Baseball has open field workouts Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:15 PM at Husky Field. Tennis open courts are available Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30–5:00 PM when courts are dry, with equipment provided.

On the hardwood, Boys Basketball faced strong league opponents this week, competing against Arcata and McKinleyville. The team continues to build experience and push forward through a challenging stretch.

Girls Basketball earned a solid win over McKinleyville while also competing in games against Arcata and St. Bernard’s. The team’s effort and resilience continue to show as they battle through league play.

Meanwhile, Husky Wrestling keeps dominating on the mat with the team now reaching 52 total pins on the season.


🍽 Husky Eats

This week’s cafeteria menu features a mix of student favorites and hearty meals to keep Huskies fueled for class and activities. Breakfast options include warm and quick grab-and-go choices each morning, while lunches throughout the week offer hot entrées, fresh fruits, vegetables, and daily rotating selections.

Students can check the posted menus around campus or in the cafeteria for full daily offerings.
