Welcome Back to Second Semester at Fortuna High
Welcome back, Huskies! We’re excited to kick off second semester and welcome students back to campus after winter break. This week’s Husky Howler video bulletin covers important reminders, new opportunities, club meetings, campus food options, and a full Husky Sports update. If you missed the video, you’ll find all of the highlights below.
Detention & Tutoring Schedule (Week of Return)
Students should be sure to take note of this week’s detention and tutoring schedule as routines resume for second semester.
Lunch detention on Monday is held with Richardson in room B-3 at 12:55, with after-school detention on Monday in Cafe 1 with Lynch at 3:25. Tuesday includes before-school detention with Raven in E-3 from 7:35–8:10, lunch detention with Orr in CA-8 at 12:10, and after-school detention in CA-8 at 3:25. Math tutoring is available at lunch in room E-2 with Ms. Valdez, and after-school tutoring takes place in the library with Miss Day.
On Wednesday, lunch detention is in B-3 with Richardson at 12:10, followed by after-school detention in AG-2 with Lovfald from 1:20–3:20. After-school tutoring meets in room F-6 with Sarah Dixon. Thursday again offers before-school detention with Raven in E-3, after-school detention with Orr in CA-8, tutoring in F-6 with Mrs. Dixon, and after-school math tutoring in E-4 with Mr. Couch. Friday lunch detention is held in CA-8 with Mr. Orr. Saturday School takes place January 10th from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM in room CA-8.
Club Meetings & Student Involvement
Clubs are back in session, and there are plenty of opportunities for students to get involved.
Garden Club meets Monday after school from 3:25–4:25 in the garden between the F Building and the Metal Shop. Interact Club meets Monday at lunch in AB-3. Dungeons & Dragons Club continues every Tuesday after school in AB-3 with Mr. Rios, and BSU meets every other Tuesday at lunch in room B-3.
On Thursdays, FCA meets in CA-2 at lunch for Pizza with a Pastor. Creeks Club hosts recycling every Thursday after school on the senior lawn — no membership required. MEChA meets at lunch in CA-4, and GSA meets at lunch in the Wellness Center on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays. On Fridays, Cert Club meets on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month, Theatre Club meets at lunch in CA-6 with Miss Olson, and Book Club meets in CA-7 with Miss Dorman. Creeks Club also hosts a campus clean-up every Friday after school on the senior lawn, lasting about 30 minutes.
New Classes & Schedule Changes
Three new classes have opened for the spring semester. Students interested should see their counselor as soon as possible.
A new Art World class is available 1st period with Mr. Holmes (drawing, ceramics, or Photo 1 required). Two new 7th-period options include Jazz Band with Mr. Campbell and Art Media Production with Mr. Rios. Seventh period is optional and runs Monday–Thursday from 3:30–4:30 PM and Friday from 2:30–3:30 PM.
Schedule change requests must be submitted to counselors by Friday, January 9th. Late requests will not be accepted, and all changes depend on available seats and teacher approval.
Theatre, Yearbooks & Student News
Theatre Club presents You Can’t Take It With You. Crew interviews will be held Monday, January 12th from 3:40–4:30 PM in CA-6, with auditions on Tuesday, January 13th from 3:40–5:00 PM in the theatre. Application packets are available outside Miss Olson’s room.
Yearbooks are currently $76. Seniors can personalize two custom pages for free. Senior photos and quotes are due March 1st, with custom pages and baby ads due April 5th. Photos should be emailed to srios@fuhsdistrict.net. More details are available at FortunaHigh.com/yearbook.
Husky Eats: What’s on the Menu
The cafeteria is back in full swing this week with breakfast favorites like waffles, cinnamon rolls, French toast, pancake puffs, and sausage-and-egg muffins. Lunch offerings include pizza, sloppy joes, beefy mac, chicken pot pie, sub sandwiches, and fresh fruit and vegetables daily. The salad bar is also available throughout the week.
Husky Sports Update
Husky athletics return strong heading into second semester.
Boys Basketball opened the new year with a 54–38 win over Kelseyville on January 2nd. Before break, the Huskies earned wins over Weed High School and Futures High School, while competing in tough tournament matchups against Liberty Ranch, Union Mine, and Amador High School.
Girls Basketball has been on an impressive run, starting the new year with a 55–36 home win over Timberline. Over break, the Lady Huskies collected wins over Ridgeview, Amador Valley, Westmoor, West Valley, and Corning, showing strong depth and consistency.
Wrestling is also off to a powerful start, with Fortuna High’s wrestling teams combining for an impressive 87 total pins so far this season.
